Immigration seems to be a perennial hot topic. Even those who work with immigrants can have a hard time keeping up with the issues.
The ILC Public Education Institute brings the latest research and best practices for today’s immigration issues to educators, immigrant-serving organizations, faith communities and the public through free, interactive webinars.
Topics have included Immigrants, Cops and Crime; Building United Communities of Immigrants and African Americans; Immigrant Trauma and How to Deal with It; Integration Strategies from Faith Organizations; and Taking Back the Narrative. All webinars include the latest data on U.S. immigration and best practices for getting your message across.
A wealth of resources from our webinar series, including materials from the November 12 webinar titled Pandemic, Politics and the Future: Tackling Immigrant Anxiety and Trauma, are available below.

Immigrant Storytelling in the American Narrative
The United States is a “nation of immigrants,” but increasing anti-immigrant rhetoric has polarized the American public and led to discrimination, violence and even tragedy. What is the place of immigrants in today’s U.S., and how can we foster a more balanced, compassionate narrative around immigration?
The ILC held the webinar Immigrant Storytelling in the American Narrative, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM EDT. In this free webinar, we learned how to tell immigrant stories as part of, not something separate from, the American narrative amid all the anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies. Experts in journalism, history and storytelling examined the latest book by NPR’s Maria Hinojosa, Once I Was You: A Memoir, outlined the history of immigrant narratives in the U.S., and offered strategies to shift the public discourse on immigration. In advance of this webinar, we encouraged participants to watch the Live Conversation with Noé Álvarez and Maria Hinojosa, part of the Library of Congress National Book Festival. A toolkit with the webinar’s top takeaways is also available.
