The Immigrant Learning Center, Inc. (ILC) is a year-round, not-for-profit adult education center located in Malden, Massachusetts, six miles north of Boston. It's mission is to give immigrants a voice in three ways: provide free English classes to immigrant and refugee adults in Eastern Massachusetts, educate the public on the ways that immigrants are assets to America, and support research that demonstrates the economic and social benefits of immigration.
The school's philosophy is based on the premise that English is the vehicle of opportunity for new Americans in order to attain economic and social stability. Therefore, classes are very intensive and use an immersion approach. The ILC offers immigrants and refugees the means to gain higher education, employment and U.S. citizenship. Instruction in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) lays the foundation for foreign-born adults to realize their potential through increased English and adult literacy proficiency.
