Like many immigrants, our student Liliana had to start her career over when she immigrated to the United States from Argentina. She came to The ILC hoping to strengthen her English skills and figure out what she would do next. When our “Next Steps” teacher connected her to a medical interpreter training program, she knew she had found her new passion.
The ILC’s mission is to give immigrants and refugees a voice. As a medical interpreter in training, Liliana has the same mission:
“I want to help people, because I know how hard it is in a country with not the same language, and I know sometimes you are lost … It’s so hard and it’s sad, the feeling you get, and that is the reason I want to help people. That way they can feel better. And it’s like they can speak through me. It’s like I give them a voice, you know? I give them a voice through myself and for me that is a blessing.”
Liliana feels that she has been blessed as well, because “the U.S., The ILC and all the people around me always support me, and I’m happy for that. Very, very happy.” You are one of the “people around her” who have supported her. Thank you for all that you do.
