From the Civil War to the Cold War, immigrants played a pivotal yet often overlooked role in shaping U.S. history. Learn about free, new, classroom-ready resources for grades 5-12 in this poster session with Ariana Moir, Education Program Manager at The ILC Public Education Institute, and Karen Glover, Communications Director at The Immigrant Learning Center, at the Conference of the National Council for the Social Studies in Washington, DC.
The presentation draws on The Immigrant Learning Center’s Teaching U.S. Immigration series, which provides teachers with tools to explore immigration through the lens of the history and social studies curriculum already being taught. These lesson bundles include engaging in-person and online activities, primary sources from the Library of Congress and multiple leveled texts.
The session will specifically introduce resources that were created in 2025. There will be an overview, suggestions for incorporating the material and the opportunity to ask questions.
This resource was sponsored in part by the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Eastern Region Program, coordinated by Waynesburg University.
